gini careers: Why gini’s a great place for people from all backgrounds
gini welcomes applicants from all industries and backgrounds, because we believe new perspectives make us richer and more creative. That’s why we have 14 nationalities represented in a 21-strong team, and why many people have joined us from non-fintech backgrounds.
Product Manager Amélie started out with a biomedical degree, before switching to the fintech industry. Here, she tells us what that transition was like and how the gini team helped her settle into her new role.
What was the biggest challenge you faced when starting in a new industry, and how has gini helped facilitate your transition?
I think one of the biggest challenges or things that I faced was more convincing people that I could do it, without having a track record or any sort of evidence to back it up.
How gini has helped with the transition is… in providing the right environment for it, and facilitating learning, and the people that would always be open to questions and explain everything that I lacked in knowledge and wanted to learn more about.
What has been a highlight for you at gini so far?
I think the highlight has been the culture. Just interacting with the people working together. Everybody has a very different background and it's quite cool to see how those backgrounds help facilitate all these ideas and create new ideas. Yeah, and I think the cultural diversity definitely helps in bringing things to the table and actually executing them.
What advice would you give for anyone applying to work at gini?
I would advise… obviously the standard advice of being on time, being prepared, knowing what the company's up to, giving our app a try — as well as just being yourself and authentic.
Be prepared to talk a bit about yourself and what you have done and why you’ve done it and what you've experienced. And obviously, be on time because everybody likes to know that you’re punctual, and can read your agenda.
How would you describe gini in 5 words?
Well, definitely fun. I would say everybody's very open as well. We’re quite flexible on how our team works and what everybody wants. We’re collaborative, we work a lot together... and we’re friendly to everybody.
